You know, the very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common: they don't alter their views to fit the facts; they alter the facts to fit their views ~Fourth Doctor
Dear Universe, Time and Space
Well it is no secret now that the 13th human to take on the role of The Doctor will infact be a Female.
A female by the name of Jodie Whitaker. Jodie is a feminist... but not from what I can tell of the "third wave" variety, instead she's just another actor whom the head writer happened to like in his own show Broadchurch. If The show will be better or worse with Chris Chibnall, previous works being 42, The Hungry Earth / Cold Blood, ,Dinosaurs on a Spaceship, The Power of Three ... Understandably this leaves some folks worried about if he is the best fit for running the show, especially with previous works he has done and his insistence that the 13th doctor be a woman from day one.
However, Most of the hatred and backlash I have seen seems to be on the idea of a "Male's hero" becoming a woman, Personally I find that sentiment ridiculous... while it can surely be said The Doctor is a good Male's Hero whom isn't an action bloody beefcake, it must also be stated that The Doctor has always also been the hero of many females. Especially in his onscreen adventures. I don't believe this would necessarily be ruined just because of a change in his sex.
The other major backlash I have seen is regarding the change being either not needed, not wanted, not "right" or "not being done for the right reasons" and surely all of these points hold some weight but I'd like to talk about the last one in particular.
Was Jodie Whittaker Cast because she'll do a good doctor? or merely because she knew Chris?
If the former is the case then so be it, but what if its not. What if its merely to appease the PC and SJW and FEMINIST movements... I propose the question...so what if it is. Doctor Who has never ever been afraid of going against the norm or accepted ways, and is certainly no stranger to controversy... it has always been progressive.
Maybe it's time for a change? Maybe not, We will have to wait and see.
